Jacky Cheung says clueless panel shouldn’t judge singers
HONG KONG: Veteran singer Jacky Cheung reckons that a clueless panel should not be judging contestants during a song contest.
That summed up the reason why he has not taken on a role in the hit show I Am A Singer.
According to a miffed Jacky, the biggest flaw of the show is the judging panel, as he cannot understand why all the contestants, who are formidable singers, have to be criticised by judges who know nothing about singing.
He then went on to share that singing is in essence, the creative work of the singer themselves.
However, when they go on, they are subjected to the judges interpreting their feelings and singing performances as they deem fit. The contestants also have to butter up the judges and the audience, the thought of which leaves him “full of disgust”.
Jacky’s close pal singer Han Hong, together with producers of the show had been cajoling him into appearing on the show, but he had steadfastly refused.
For months, Jacky kept quiet as to why he had turned them down. Until now.
