He made this observation after a briefing by Sarawak Rivers Board ( SRB) Kapit officer Riyong Barau during his visit to the jetty yesterday afternoon.

Jamit was accompanied by Cr Liew Hui Hua, Penghulu Pasang Tubah and SRB staff.

Riyong briefed the assemblyman on the general maintenance of the longboat jetty and its facilities such as public toilets and benches which at one time were not maintained well but were now maintained properly for the convenience and comfort

of commuters.

Later, Jamit told the press covering the function that he was satisfied with the condition of the jetty which previously was in a mess with rubbish littered around and dirty and smelly toilets.

“This afternoon I inspected the longboat jetty because I wanted to see for myself its condition and general maintenance to this public utility.

“I’m satisfied and happy with the Sarawak Rivers Board for taking proper care and maintenance of the jetty.

“In the past there was rubbish littered here and there but now it is clean, neat and tidy.

“Also the public toilets used to be filled with foul smell and had broken doors. Now, Sarawak Rivers Board has engaged a cleaner to look after the toilets and at the same time to clean the jetty daily to ensure the jetty is free of mud,” he said.

According to Pasang, the longboat jetty is vital to the people from Pelagus, Sungai Goh, Sungai Belawai, Sungai Yong, Sungai Iban, Sungai Menuan and as far as Sungai Melipis along the Rajang River and also those along Baleh River for them to berth their longboats.
