16 Sarawak companies attend inaugural SoHELP convention in Bangi, Selangor

KUCHING: A total of 16 companies from Sarawak, pioneers for the Systematic Occupation­al Health Enhancemen­t Level Programme ( SoHELP), were among the 214 participan­ts who attended the first ever SoHELP Convention at the National Institute of Occupation­al Safety and Health ( NIOSH) headquarte­rs in Bangi, Selangor on March 15–16.

The inaugural convention was officiated at by Department of Occupation­al Safety and Health ( DOSH) director general Datuk Mohtar Musri.

In his speech, he elaborated further on the Occupation­al Safety and Health Master Plan ( OSHMP) 2020 and how SoHELP is part of the fourth strategy, which seeks to improve industrial hygiene; namely hearing conservati­on, chemical management and workplace ergonomics, and reduce incidents related to industrial hygiene.

Participan­ts selected from Sarawak included CMS Quarries Sdn Bhd, CMS Premix Sdn Bhd, X- FAB ( Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, THP Pelita Ladang Gedong, IOT Management Sdn Bhd, Harum Bidang Sdn Bhd, HGST Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Toko Electronic­s ( Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Ceramica Indah Sdn Bhd, Amalgamate­d Batteries Manufactur­ing, Hexzachem Sarawak Sdn Bhd, SCIB, Concrete Manufactur­ing Sdn Bhd, Brooke Dockyard and Engineerin­g Works Corporatio­n, PDB Kuching Aviation Fuel Terminal and Sejingkat Power Corporatio­n.

During the convention’s closing function, DOSH deputy director general Zabidi Datuk Md Adib expressed his hope that the improvemen­t towards better industrial hygiene will continue even after the completion of the programme.

Zabidi also stated his hope that Phase 2 of SoHELP will introduce even more companies as well as open the path to better integratio­n of industrial hygiene and occupation­al safety and health as a whole in all workplaces of all sizes.
