MELAKA: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry ( KKMM) is taking proactive measures to curb Daesh militant activities including taking steps to identify their websites and individuals involved in the movement.

Its deputy minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the measures were taken in collaboration with various ministries and agencies, among them the Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP).

He said as a result of the move, 72 websites related to Daesh militants were blocked between August last year and March this year.

“The authorities also made several arrests while technical assistance from the ministry ( KKMM) helped the authorities to track their movement,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Earlier he launched the 2017 Discussion on Current Issues for the southern zone at Bukit Katik here.

Jailani said with the proactive move and integrated efforts with other ministries the irresponsible parties were prevented from trying to persuade the people especially the young.

“Through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MMCC) we can identify suspects involved with Daesh militant activities and finally take action against them,” he said.

He said the ministry through its agencies, particularly the Information Department, Special Affairs Department, Broadcasting Department and Malaysian National News Agency had planned various programmes to inform the public on Daesh militant threats. Meanwhile, Jailani said those trying to sabotage the economy, disgrace the leader or create problems in the country would not be spared.

“We have several Acts including the Communications and Multimedia Act which will be used to take action against those who try to destabilise the government or humiliate the leader,” he said. — Bernama
