KUCHING: DAP Socialist Youth ( DAPSY), Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and Amanah Sarawak Youth have joined forces to form Pakatan Harapan Sarawak Youth to realise their dream for a better Sarawak and Malaysia.

It major aim, according to DAPSY representative Dr Kelvin Yii, who is the political secretary to Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, is to provide a stronger platform for greater participation of youths in politics and nation-building.

“Also, we want to further promote the roles of young people to have greater inf luence and a driving force in the politics of Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said at a press conference at the PKR headquarters here yesterday, which was held to announce the formation of the new youth force.

AMK deputy chief Simon Siah and its information chief Saifunnizam Sam as well as Amanah Sarawak Youth chief Mohamad Fadillah Sabali were among those present.

“We believe in the potential of young people and although people tend to say that youths are the leaders of tomorrow, we believe they are the leaders of today and have a huge part to play in determining the direction of our country.”

Yii added that youths, who have been made mere spectators and even pawns in the world of politics for far too long, must empower themselves and also others to take up greater role in shaping the future of the country.

“The voice of the youths shall not just be heard, but also become a guiding inf luence in the formation of policies that will affect them and their families as well as the future direction of this country,” he said.

Presenting ‘ Manifesto Anak Muda Sarawak’ ( Manifesto of Sarawak’s Young Generation), Yii added that the three youth branches contributed to the drafting of the manifesto, which involves five demands and proposals on matters that affect youths in Sarawak.

The manifesto will be submitted to the leadership of PH Sarawak in view of the drafting of a common manifesto for the next general election.
