Multi-purpose hall for RPR Landeh soon — Lo

-

KUCHING: Residents of RPR Landeh, 10th Mile had a reason to celebrate on Sunday after their elected representative announced that a multi-purpose hall will be built in the area soon.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said it is about time that a multi-purpose be built in the area as residents longed for a place to carry out their activities.

All that is needed now is to identify a piece of land and get approval from the Land and Survey Department before the hall can be built.

“Every residential area needs to have a multi-purpose hall for all kinds of activities and RPR Landeh is no different from any other community. Once built, I hope more communal activities can be carried out by the residents of RPR Landeh and the nearby areas,” he added.

Most of the residents of RPR Landeh have been living in the area since 2002 and have never had any proper place to hold their activities.

Another reason why a multipurpose hall should be built in RPR Landeh is that more nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) and other bodies are setting up branches in RPR Landeh.

NGOs and bodies which are related to cultural activities for example, need a big space and place to hold their activities.

When the multi-purpose hall is built, Lo hopes that RPR Landeh will be a place where unity, peace and harmony in the community can flourish as the people there have a place to do things together in the future.

He also mentioned that the multi-purpose hall could be considered as a gift from him to the people there who have been very supportive of him, especially during the previous State Election last year.

“I am very thankful for the support that I received from the people of Batu Kitang. I have promised to serve them well after being elected and I shall keep my promise,” he said.

Lo was speaking to reporters during the launching ceremony of the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association Academy (Asadia) RPR Landeh branch held at a shophouse in RPR Landeh on Sunday.

Asadia is a cultural unit of Sarawak Dayak Iban Association ( Sadia) which promotes Iban culture.

During the event, a total of 19 female participants received certificates from Lo after completing a traditional Iban dance class organised by Asadia recently.

Also present during the event were Sadia president Sidi Munan, Asadia head Mabong Unggang and RPR Landeh Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) chairman Mohd Mansur Abdullah.
