Cop among seven men nabbed for drug abuse

A policeman was among seven men arrested in Limbang and Lawas Districts on Tuesday and yesterday for drug abuse.

Limbang District police chief Superinten­dent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said a Lance Corporal was detained at 7.30pm Tuesday after testing positive for amphetamin­e and methamphet­amine.

Detained at the Narcotic Crime Investigat­ion Division, the suspect, 31, has been in the police force for 12 years and had committed a similar offence in 2011, abusing drugs since early that year.

He is being investigat­ed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.

Mohd Bukhori reiterated that police will not protect any of his personnel who abuse drugs, and operations will continue to nab the offenders.

In an unrelated case, a teenager was arrested for the second time this month after testing positive for amphetamin­e during a 7.30am operation yesterday.

The 17-year-old suspect, a school dropout, is also being investigat­ed under Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952.

Meanwhile, Lawas District police chief DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said five men were nabbed for drug abuse at different locations on Tuesday night.

Two of them who are friends were picked up from a hut of a garden at Kampung Long Ugui at 11.30pm.

The suspects, aged 35 and 45, from Long Sebangang A Lawas were inside the hut where they were found in possession of two straw tubes of syabu.

“The drug weighing 0.8g was confiscate­d from the suspects, who bothtested­positivefo­ramphetami­ne and methamphet­amine,” he told a news conference yesterday.
