Salcra urged to study its strengths, weaknesses
KUCHING: The management of Sarawak Land Consolidation Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) is urged to study its strengths and weaknesses and to adjust itself in order to meet today’s challenges.
Deputy Chief Minister who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said there would be many challenges, but they could be overcome with the experience of the management and staff.
“Salcra needs to look at ways to increase productivity, reduce cost and enhance credibility to create more confidence in the landowners,” he said at an appreciation and welcoming dinner on Friday, where he was welcomed on board as the new Salcra chairman, replacing former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.
Uggah hoped that Jabu, who is the state science research advisor, would continue to guide and support Salcra as he had done in the past 25 years.
Earlier, Salcra general manager Datu Vasco Sabat Singkang in paying tribute to Jabu, thanked him for his leadership as chairman all these years.
“You have allocated a lot of your time to Salcra, meeting as many land participants as you could. You listened to all issues raised by the management and the grouses from land participants and the general public,” he said.
In welcoming Uggah aboard as the new ‘captain, Vasco pledged full support for his leadership.
“We are ever ready to carry our tasks, duties and responsibilities assigned to us. You are the beacon of hope for Salcra. You have the vision to improve our rural community in terms of social and economic development.
“Under your leadership, Salcra will move forward until we have achieved our vision. We will work together to make the community prosper,” he said.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity Dato Sri Michael Manyin, deputy Speaker Datuk Gerawat Jala, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Development Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Assistant Minister for Agriculture Malcolm Mussen Lamoh were also present at the dinner.
