‘Assemblyman’s post not for keeps’
BALAI RINGIN: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing has reminded elected representatives (YB) that their position are not for keeps.
“The position is not for you to keep, YB is a position that belongs to the people, do not think that because you are elected as a YB, you can keep it for life,” said Masing during the launch of the party’s election machinery at the Balai Ringin multipurpose hall yesterday.
Masing said it was equally important for every elected representative to fully understand that it was the people’s confidence in them which have landed them the position as a YB in the first place.
“For that we must thank the people who have the confidence in us and the party. Please take note that the position is not for you to keep, it is given by the people to us,” said Masing who is also Baleh assemblyman.
“When a candidate is changed, do not be angry. If he or she is angry, it is better not to enter politics in the first place,” said Masing who entered the political scene as a state assemblyman 34 years ago.
On another note, Masing said it was the prerogative of the chief minister to decide who would stand as a candidate in each state or parliamentary constituency during the elections.
On his part as a BN coalition party president, he would have to determine the best candidates to represent the party in the elections.
Meanwhile, Masing expressed delight to be given the honour to launch the party’s election machinery which was headed by the party’s Youth wing led by Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan.
Touching on the election machinery named ‘Argo Pemuda PRS’, Masing said the youth members represent the future of the party and Dayak society.
“In you lies the future of Sarawak, in you lies the future of the Dayak society,” he added.
He also called upon the youth members to work alongside each other to achieve a common vision.
“Together you must learn to trust, act together and carry out what was discussed and agreed upon together. Only then unity can be sustained,” he reminded.
Also present at the launch were Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak, Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan, Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang, Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie Tayai and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong.
