PRS’ election machinery ‘Argo Pemuda PRS’ launched

BALAI RINGIN: Parti Rakat Sarawak (PRS) has taken a giant leap in facing the next general election by launching an election machinery called ‘Argo Pemuda PRS’ headed by the youth wing.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, its Youth chief Snowdan Lawan said ‘Argo Pemuda PRS’ was more than ready to go all out to defend and win all their six parliamentary seats.

“We will do our best to win with a bigger majority,” said Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman, to a packed audience at the multipurpose hall here

Its party president and Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing officiated at the launching ceremony which also saw the presence of the party top guns such as Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat, Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyalau Badak, Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang, Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie Tayai and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong.

Snowdan said ‘Argo’ came from the Greek word ‘ship’ to represent the election machinery’s drive to chase their dreams and be brave during election campaigns.

“This is also the first time the party has mobilised an election machinery to face an election,” he added.

After the launch yesterday, the election machinery will symbolically sail out of Balai Ringin, which acts as a ‘port’, to their next destination, Baleh.

Among the highlight of the election machinery would be the use of social media ‘#Be Brave’ to reflect their position as frontliners during the campaign.

“We will give our full support to any (parliamentary) candidate chosen by our president (Masing). You are our leader and therefore we will make sure we will follow you, strengthen you in the party and give you our full support,” he added.

The election machinery will be divided into Welfare Bureau, Sports and Recreation Bureau; Entrepreneurship Development Bureau, Tradition and Culture Bureau and Education Bureau.

Several activities and programmes, Snowdan said, were in the pipeline to engage and reach out to the people more effectively.

This would foster greater relationship among the diverse races, especially Dayaks.

“By being united, people will be more respectable to us (Dayak community) and they will not tread upon us with ease,” he added.

The 16 PRS youth branches present at the launching ceremony were from Batu Kawa, Simanggang, Engkilili, Pakan, Ngemah, Tamin, Kakus, Baleh, Belaga, Samalaju, Bukit Kota, Batang Ai, Murum, Batu Danau, Bukit Goram and Balai Ringin.

Snowdan also gave away Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM57,000 to 11 Village Safety and Development Committees (JKKKs).
