Raise future leaders for country, says Fadillah

-

KUCHING: Parents should play their part in ensuring their children are raised to be future leaders of the country.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf said they should know their children’s interest and build their capabilities from there.

“Now is not the era of studying just to be employed.

“A person should do something he or she has passion in.

“If they have interest in music, let them explore that talent,” said Fadillah who is also Petra Jaya MP.

He said this at a parenting workshop held at Yayasan Sarawak Auditorium here yesterday. It was organised by Community Development Department (Kemas).

He said the government, under the TN50 initiative, wanted Malaysians to think beyond to see where they want to be, especially in the next 40 years.

“This is important from the aspect of our younger generation, as they will be adults in 2050 when they will face a totally different era where some jobs might not exist anymore.”

He said parents should shape their children with skills in mathematics and science, and the ability to converse in English.

“Apart from that, identify their strength and let them pursue what they excel in.

“Times are different now and academics is not the sole reason for success, but other factors such as discipline and attitude,” he said.

The workshop aims to highlight the importance of child development to parents for them to understand their role, besides providing nutritious food to their children.

Present were Kemas Kuching officer Lindawati Padiel and Samariang Parti Pesaka Bumiputer Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Branch chief Hanifah Said.
