Convert to e-commerce and online business to keep up, advises Lee
MIRI: Computer sales and service retailers are urged to consider changing their business model into that of e-commerce and online to keep up with the changing world.
Land and Air Transportation and Safety Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this in his address at the Computer Sales and Services Association (CSSA) Sarawak, Miri branch last Friday (April 21).
“The ICT world is moving at a fast speed with new computer models coming up every month at least. If retailers stick to the old fashion way of doing business, they will be left far behind their competitors.”
Lee said though it is a challenging world, it’s not impossible to make it with a more advanced business model and value-added services.
Meanwhile chairman for the 2017-2018 term, Yong Chee Tak told members that despite the slow economy and a challenging and tough year, the members are discouraged from initiating price wars.
“Year 2017 is a challenging year but we must practise business ethics. I advise members to compete with one another in terms of service but not price, as price wars will hurt our bottom line.”
Yong recalled that CSSA Sarawak was set up more than eight years ago to look after the interests of members.
“It was also to foster relationship among members and I hope our association will grow from strength to strength with the support and cooperation from all of them.”
Yong thanked Miri City Council for its support in collaborating with CSSA Sarawak to organise Sarawak ICT Expo that not only gives bigger business opportunities to retailers, but more exposure to consumers.
“Of course, in order for CSSA Sarawak to be effective in our activities, I hope principal suppliers and members give us their undivided support in all events,” he said.
The annual dinner cum installation of new office-bearers for the 2017-2018 term was attended by Mayor Adam Yii and all CSSA members.
