‘Culture and art safeguard national unity and harmony’
MIRI: Sarawak Chinese Association viewed its culture and art promotion work as a platform to safeguard existing national racial unity and harmony.
Its chairman John Ting said the involvement in culture and arts has proven successful in enhancing national unity and integration.
“Although we don’t speaking the same language, the involvement in culture and art is able to bring us together. Let us enhance this spirit by sharing similar interests in culture and arts promotion.
“Living in a multi-ethnic country, the effort to build a sense of national unity and harmony is important,” he said when officiating at the Chinese Cultural Arts Festival at Miri Civic Centre recently.
On the role of Sarawak Chinese Association, Ting said the association upholds its founding purpose to preserve and promote the beauty of Chinese culture and arts in the community.
“Culture and arts are the soul of the Chinese community as it has been passed from one generation to another. Thus, it is important for us to preserve these ancient culture and arts to ensure its practice by the next generation.”
On the Chinese Cultural Art Festival, he gave his thumbsup to culture promotion by Ding Hao Group of Companies’ International Art Performance Group which has travelled thousands of miles to Miri to bring these superb cultural and artistic performances.
“Their contributions to promote Chinese culture and art in the international arena are commendable and must be recognised.”
The CEO of Ding Hou Group of Companies, Alan Ting saw such cultural exchange performance as a platform to foster bilateral ties between Malaysia and China, and hoped a similar cultural exchange programme could be conducted to enhance understanding of cultural beliefs.
Present were organising chairman Harry Lee and representatives from local racebased associations.
