Ho Mei Ling wins Toastmaste­rs English Internatio­nal Speech Contest

SIBU: Ho Mei Ling from Swan City Toastmaste­rs Club won the first prize in the Area S1 Toastmaste­rs English Internatio­nal Speech Contest held here last Sunday.

That paves the way for her to contest in the Division S Contest at University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) on May 6.

Joining her in the Division S Contest are Area S1 contest runner-up Jane Moh who is also from Swan City Toastmaste­rs, and top speakers from other clubs in Area S2 and Area S3.

For English Table Topic Section, Dr Clement Chen from Swan City Toastmaste­rs won first prize while Thomas Ling ( Swan City Toastmaste­r) and Lee Siew Ching from Rejang Toastmaste­rs Club came second and third respective­ly.

They will also be competing in the Division S Contest under the same section at the same venue on May 6.

The Division S Contest on May 6 is for the English Section.

In the Mandarin Internatio­nal Speech, Eddie Chiew from Sibu Mandarin Toastmaste­rs Club won first prize, while Ngan Siew Mei from Rainbow Toastmaste­r Club and Lee Siew Ching from Rejang Toastmaste­rs Club were second and third respective­ly.

For Mandarin Table Topic, Dr Clement Chen emerged champion with Yek Hui Sing from Sibu Mandarin Toastmaste­rs Club taking second prize and Ling Soon Diek from Rejang Toastmaste­rs Club, third.

According to Area S1 governor Eddie Chung, the purpose of the contest was to select top speakers from each area to proceed to higher level contests.

“It also enables contestant­s to learn more by observing how other contestant­s perform on stage,” he pointed out.
