Yayasan Melaka denies owning 56 land grants seized by MACC in Sabah

-

MELAKA: A total of 56 land grants allegedly confiscated by the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) to facilitate a graft investigation involving a state politician do not belong to Yayasan Melaka.

Yayasan Melaka general manager Datuk Zaini Md Nor said the foundation did not own the 56 lots of land in Sabah and the claims made by a local English daily was regrettable.

In this regard, he said the newspaper should correct the matter and apologise to Yayasan Melaka over the mistake in the report which was written without referring to authorised sources.

“The foundation is set up to assist schoolchildren and poor families, as well as contributes RM5.5 million annually to the Melaka Education Trust Fund, and the erroneous report had (thus) damaged the image of Yayasan Melaka.

“I have no problem if the statement is referred to me, I can give the facts but to issue the report without verifying the facts has tarnished the image of Yayasan Melaka and its officers, including me,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

The daily reported 56 land grants belonging to Yayasan Melaka were among those seized to investigate the case.

Zaini said Yayasan Melaka was involved in an oil palm plantation in Sabah, with the cooperation of a Sabah Government subsidiary, but the 5,300 hectares of land in the project were leased from the state government. — Bernama
