National squad back-up players dominate junior tournament

PETALING JAYA: National squad back-up players dominated the boys and the girls categories of the National Junior Bowling Championsh­ip 2017 at Sunway Mega Lanes, Bandar Sunway yesterday.

Wa n Mu hammad Naqi b Norazizan lived up to expectatio­n when he struck 1,781 pins to win the boys category and the gold medal.

Tun Ameerul Luqman AlHakim was a distant second with 1,732 pins to win the silver medal while Mohd Hafiz Zainuddin was a close third with 1,718 pins (14 pins behind) and had to settle for the bronze.

A beaming Wan Muhammad Naqib said he was happy with the win since he was consistent from the first to the eighth round.

“This win has lifted my spirit . I will strive to improve my game and hope to be selected for the national elite squad,” he told reporters after the game.

The girls category belonged to Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal who knocked down 1,763 pins to win first place and the gold medal.

Jocelyna Judith Jonathan sprang a surprise by finishing in second for the silver medal.

The Sarawak lass struck 1,678 pins.

Inconsiste­nt play saw national squad back-up player Nur Amirah Auni Azman finishing third and picking up the broze medal (1,640 pins).

Nora Lyana said the competitio­n was stiff as Jocelyna was on her back since the start of the game.

The National Junior Bowling Championsh­ip 2017 is part of the 41st National Bowling Championsh­ip held from April 21 to 29. — Bernama
