Mok Yong An is Campus superstar
MIRI: Mok Yong An defeated 41 other contestants to become the champion of Campus Superstar after he won the judges’ heart with his beautiful vocal and interesting stage performance.
Held recently at Boulevard Shopping Mall here, the singing competition for students aged 13 to 19 years was a huge success with participation from 42 students from different secondary schools in Miri.
Apart from the title, Mok who also won the ‘Best Stage Performance’ bagged home cash prize of RM500, a trophy, two hampers, and a certificate of participation.
Jess Lim and Jack Wong Jie Xing took the second and third spot respectively and walked home with cash prize, a hamper, a trophy and a certificate of participation. Lim also won the ‘Best Dressed’ title which won her a hamper.
Meanwhile, five consolation prizes were won by Watson Tase Batu, Shirly Wong, Chee Yu Xuan, Jolanda Ling Wenxin and Cheryl Yu Zhi Lin.
The competition was held over two rounds – preliminary and final round – where contestants were given the choice to choose song of any genre and the 10 contestants with the highest score vied for the finals where contestants had to belt out rock songs.
Mall manager Derek Ling lauded the contest as a great avenue to encourage youngsters to showcase their talent.
“It gives the young talents the exposure of what to expect when they participate in singing contest and I am sure that at the same time, builds up their confidence and on-stage experience.”
