V4KL programme attracts 4,000 young volunteers
KUALA LUMPUR: The Volunteer for Kuala Lumpur Programme (V4KL) programme, which was created in preparation for the hosting of the 2017 SEA Games in the national capital on August 19-30, drew the attention of more than 4,000 young volunteers.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Socio-Economic Development executive director Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff said the programme, which also encouraged participation of all ages, focused on work to beautify and clean areas of tourism lure in Kuala Lumpur.
“Despite being implemented three times involving volunteers from the Seputeh, Lembah Pantai and Bukit Bintang parliamentary constituencies, the response from numerous quarters including students, resident representatives and local authorities are encouraging.
“Other than instilling a sense of belonging towards the city in every volunteer, the cost in terms of workers is also reduced by more than 50 per cent,” he told reporters after attending the V4KL programme at Dataran Medan Pasar here yesterday.
The programme, which was opened by the Federal Territories Sports Council director Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhammad Raffi, was joined by 1,000 volunteers who repainted all the public facility structures and cleaned their surrounding areas.
The V4KL programme was the idea of Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and will be conducted every month until the 2017 SEA Games. — Bernama
