Gawai Bazaars should be held statewide – Masing

-

KAPIT: Gawai Bazaars should be held across the state to give Dayak entrepreneurs the opportunity to increase their income.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said the bazaar, which began in Miri several years ago, has managed to bring Dayak entrepreneurs together.

“This is an opportunity for Dayak entrepreneurs to venture into business to inculcate a sense of business-mindedness to earn more income. Gawai Bazaars offer opportunities to Dayak entrepreneurs to earn money for them to celebrate Gawai Dayak,” he said on Sunday when launching the Gawai Bazaar 2.0 here.

“In Kapit, we all come together for whatever things we do. We are party-less here because we are together to ensure that Dayaks like any other community in the state, can thrive and prosper in running businesses.”

He advised entrepreneurs to trade properly and honestly, as well as to provide services at reasonable prices.

Prior to the launching of the bazaar, there was a colourful 3.5km procession through Kapit Town to the bazaar site at the Kapit Airfield.

Kelab Gagung Sarawak members in full traditional Iban costumes led the procession involving some 500 participants, including Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong.
