MARUDI: Fourteen families from two longhouses in Mulu constituency — 8- door Rumah Adam and 6- door Rumah Lansam, Sg Dabai — received flood aid at Marudi District Office Conference room here on Tuesday morning.

This were the first wave of flood victims from Jan 20 to 24 this year to receive the aid.

The 14 families moved to the evacuation centre at Baram Civic Centre.

Meanwhile 258 victims from 15 villages had not moved to the evacuation centre.

The second wave of flood victims from Feb 26 to March 11 comprised 862 victims from 30 villages in Baram who had not moved to the evacuation centre.

On Tuesday morning the financial aid of RM500 cash were presented to the victims by State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker who is Mulu Assemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala.

The aid was not according to the estimated loss of belongings or short term crops.

Others having their claims processed had also reported their houses hit by floods.

Yesterday Gerawat flew to Long Seridan where a 7-door longhouse was gutted by fire last Sunday.

He assured that the government would build them a new longhouse though it would take time.

Gerawat thanked all those who helped residents during the flood including the district officer, SAO, headmen, Civil Defence Force, Bomba, police and Welfare Department.

Present were SAO Reagan Edwin, Sergeant Mirwan from the Civil Defence Force, ASP Jaimi Hussein and headmen.
