SIBU: RC Boat Indonesia team won the Team Challenge Tournament Cup ( grand prize) at the Borneo International RC Powerboat Tournament 2017 last Sunday at Permai Lake Garden.

With an overall score of 312 points, the team took home the tournament cup and RM8,000 cash prize.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh gave away the awards.

Speaking to The Borneo Post after receiving their prize, a representative from RC Boat Indonesia Samuel Aran Mamat attributed their win to the spirit of unity in the team comprising 30 members including the crew and mechanics.

“Each of us stood as one community. Even though it is very hard to group all the people as we are from different parts of Indonesia, we managed to win the team event,” he said.

He said the team members had been participating in many races together – in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Thailand, Vietnam and even in their home country Indonesia.

On Borneo International RC Powerboat Tournament 2017, he said it was a great event and the people of Sibu could make the event more interesting in the future.

“Maybe in future, the organiser could increase the prize money so that people from around the world would be interested to participate,” he suggested.

Meanwhile, champions in the individual categories were Frinky from Brunei ( class A), Dawut from Thailand ( Class B), Nur Rahman Rivai from Indonesia (Class D), Zeck Zenoah from Brunei ( Class E & G), Roy Arfian from Indonesia ( Class F & I) and Dawut from Thailand (Class H).

According to co- organiser Peter Ling from Sibu Remote Control Sports Club, only participants who did not make it to the final were eligible to enter the category.

“We did not have any fixed registration fee for that new category. It was up to the participants how much they wanted to give and the money collected from the registration fee would be given to Sibu Autistic Association ( SAA),” he said.

A total of 58 boats were registered for the new category.

Also present at the event were Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, United People’s Party ( UPP) Community Service Board Sibu chairman Datuk Andrew Wong, co- organiser Wong Hie Ping and Sibu Remote Control Sports Club chairman Andrew Ling.
