KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching ( Hope Place) extended assistance to a former resident of Anjung Singgah here recently.

According to a press statement from the non- governmental organisation ( NGO), 23-year- old Jackson Tarina who has learning disabilities was brought to Anjung Singgah two months ago.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan said Jackson has been homeless for the past few years and had to endure hunger and the weather. The latter was also left with no choice but to sleep on the walkway or in the ‘pondok sampan’ at Kuching Waterfront.

Anjung Singgah has assisted Jackson to look for a job at a coffee shop and also apply for an OKU ( Person With Disabilities) card from the Welfare Department as he was due to move out of the centre last Thursday.

Jackson also received food items such as rice, cooking oil, Milo powder, salt, sugar, biscuits, noodles, towels and a mattress from Hope Place.

Hope Place visits poor and less fortunate families to bring them essential food items. It carries out aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on its recipients list. Currently the NGO supports more than 170 families.
