Muslim NGO Batas Piasau holds blood drive

-

MIRI: Muslim non- governmental organisation ( NGO), Badan Amal dan Tarbiah Sejagat ( Batas) Piasau branch organised a blood donation campaign at MYY Mall in Lutong recently.

Batas Piasau chairman Khalid Abdul Manap said it is part of the organisation’s social obligation to hold the blood donation campaign which benefitted the Miri blood bank.

“We are not targeting the amount of blood collected but the effort by members to voluntarily give blood that could save many lives,” Khalid said.

According to Khalid, the campaign is part of Batas Piasau’s efforts to help top up blood stocks for Miri Hospital especially for the upcoming Ramadan month as Muslims donors will be fasting then and not donating blood.

He also said he is thankful, not only for Batas members who donated their blood but also to members of the public who came forward to do the same during the programme.

He said the half- day campaign which lasted from 10am until afternoon did not have a specific number of donors targeted but the public support received was good.

He added Batas Piasau will organise regular blood donation campaigns to impart awareness to the public at large as well as to other NGOs and associations here so they can also play a proactive role to help maintain blood stocks at Miri Hospital.

Apart from the blood donation drive, the Muslim NGO has also helped to donate to the less fortunate in Piasau and surrounding areas in Miri and even held ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) programme at a Muslim cemetery.

“We hope the public will continue to support our activities including ‘gotongroyong’ or blood donation,” Khalid added.
