Police arrest four people, seize drugs worth RM80,000 in raids

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Narcotics CID arrested four people, including a woman from Laos, and seized drugs worth more than RM80,000 in two raids, here last week.

Penang deputy police chief Datuk Roslee Chik said the first raid led to the arrest of three suspects, aged between 23 and 53 years, in an an apartment in Jalan Pantai Sinaran, Gelugor at 9.15 pm on April 27.

“Police also seized various types of drugs in the apartment and urine tests found the three local men to be positive for methamphet­amine.

“The seized drugs were 0.89 kilogramme­s of ketamine; two plastic packets of heroin, 20 Ecstasy pills and 120 Yaba pills worth RM42,575,” he told a press conference yesterday.

After interrogat­ion, one of the men arrested led police to a drug processing laboratory in a two- storey shophouse in Lebuh Melayu at 3.30am on April 28.

Roslee said in the second raid, police seized two plastic packets containing 1,797 grammes of drugs, 45 plastic packets of caffeine weighing 20.4 kilogramme­s and drugs processing equipment worth RM37,800.

“The drugs seized in both raids were worth more than RM80,000. We believe the drugs were meant for the local market.”

Police also seized four branded watches; jewellery; RM41,750.00 cash, 800,000 Thai bhat , two Harley Davidson motorcycle­s, a Kawasaki Z800 motorcycle, a Mercedes Benz, a Toyota Sienta and a Proton Preve, all valued at over RM676,000.

The suspects were remanded until May 4 for investigat­ion under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
