Big turnout expected at Victory Charity Night Run 2017

SIBU: A total of 638 sporting participan­ts will take up the challenge at the muchawaite­d ‘ Victory Charity Night Run 2017’ at Sibu Town Square at 6pm tomorrow.

The event is organised by the Leo Club of Methodist Pilley Institute.

President of Leo Club of Methodist Pilley Institute Phang Yu Wen said the runners will be flagged- off at the start/finish point at Sibu Town Square Phase One before proceeding to Bujang Suntong Road, Tun Abang Haji Openg Road, Bandong Roundabout, RTM Roundabout and turn back towards Tun Abang Haji Openg Road, Bujang Suntong Road and finally Sibu Town Square Phase One.

“The 6.5km event is to raise funds for Victory Home which serves as a rehabilita­tion centre for male drug addicts. It is our hope that the ‘ Victory Charity Night Run 2017’ will help spread the message and instill greater level of awareness on the danger of drug abuse among the public, especially youngsters who are our nation’s most precious asset, so they will stay away from drug abuse.”

“We also hope, through this charity run, to raise funds for Victory Home as a financial support for them to build a new rehabilita­tion centre,” she added.

Phang said ‘Victory Charity Night Run 2017’ is divided into two categories: Men’s Open and Women’s Open.

“The safety aspect of every participan­t will be our main concern and priority, especially since it is held at night.

“We as the organiser are thankful to our sporting and caring bicycle team, Rela members and traffic policemen who will assist us with safety along the route,” she pointed out.

Prizes for the top three winners in the Men’s Open and Women’s Open will be in the form of cash.
