SMK, SJK Methodist make big waves at swimming meet

SIBU: Only two records were broken but it was SMK and SJK Methodist who stole the thunder when they made a near clean sweep at the Sibu Division Inter Primary and Secondary Schools Swimming Championsh­ip at Bukit Lima Swimming Pool which concluded yesterday.

The school, who sent the biggest number of swimmers to the competitio­n, took both the boys’ and girls’ overall titles in the primary schools category and also lifted the overall girls’ title in the secondary school.

This is the first time that the school managed to produce such a good results that took the competitio­n by surprise.

SMK Methodist chalked up 170 points to emerge champion in the secondary schools girl’s section, followed by SM Catholic High with 115 points, SMK Tung Hua with 91 points, SMK Chung Hua with 90 points and SM Wong Nai Siong with 64 points.

SM Catholic High was champion in the secondary school boys’ section with 192 points, followed by SMK Chung Hua (162), SMK Sacred Heart ( 154) and SMK Methodist (145).

In the primary schools section, SJK Methodist accumulate­d 324 points to lift the girls’ overall title, followed by SJK Ek Thei (183), SJk Tung Hua (135) while the boys’ overall title also went to SJK Methodist with 318 points, followed by SJk Chung Hua (282) and SJk Ek Thei (154).

In the individual section, Angel Lau Xin Yee and Adeline Lau Jaw Ling were the only record breakers at the three- day event.

Angel wrote a new record in the Girl’s U-15 100m breaststro­ke with a time of 1’ 25.54 to erase the old mark of 1’25.66.

Meanwhile, Adeline won the Girls’ U-15 200m butterf ly in a record time of 2’48.14 to eclipse the old time of 3’06.05.

Tiong Sie Kong, representi­ng SMC Chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, gave away the prizes.
