MPP to continue improving Kota Sentosa Town Square

-

KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will continue to improve the Kota Sentosa Town Square to make it more conducive for public events.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said currently the open space for public events is rather congested.

“I am happy to know that the town square is used almost daily for public events and such events augur well for the facility and space, but the venue is rather small,” he said after launching the Borneo Evangelical Mission Olive Garden fundraising sale yesterday.

“The council will continue to allocate some money to improve the town square so that the public who use the place as their event venue do not have to worry of the weather.”

He said currently when it rains, those holding activities in the square would be inconvenienced.

“The council will have the money to ensure that the place is conducive and maybe we can have a permanent small shop behind the square stage for small businesses,” said Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman.

He said MPP will soon relocate the current hawker centre to a space with better amenities.

“We will build a grease trap and ensure that food waste will be treated properly,” he said, adding the current hawker centre area would be converted into a new car park.

He added the future of Mile 7 bazaar will involve replanning and rebuilding, which would require private sector assistance.

“Say for example this developer can turn 50 units of shophouses into a giant mall for instance with shopping complex, offices and condominiums then 7th Mile Bazaar will change,” he said, pointing out there is little room for expansion except upwards.

“When something good comes of it, everybody will team up and 7th Mile Bazaar will change from a town with old shophouses to Orchard Road Singapore. It can happen like that.”
