Melaka United draws 1-1 with mighty JDT

KUALA LUMPUR: Melaka United held league leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) to a 1-1 draw in their Super League match at the Hang Jebat Stadium yesterday, courtesy of a late strike by South Korean import Jeon Woo-young.

JDT, fresh from qualifying for the AFC Cup semifinals had taken the lead through skipper Mohd Safiq Rahim’s 59th minute strike but Melaka United, playing in front of their home fans, had other ideas when Jeon struck a sweet equaliser in the 87th minute.

Despite the draw, JDT remained at the top of the Super League table with 27 points from 12 matches followed by Pahang with 21 points while Kedah are third on 20 points.

At the Darulmakmu­r Stadium in Kuantan, Kelantan who were docked six points by the Football Associatio­n of Malaysia, edged Pahang 3-2 to earn three valuable points.

Brazilian import Alessandro Celin gave Kelantan the lead in the 17th minute but fellow countryman Matheus Alves squalised for Pahang in the 69th minute.

Kelantan’s Lebanese import Mohammad Ghaddar restored Kelantan’s lead three minutes later but Alves once again cancelled the advantage but Ghaddar made sure of all three points with a late strike.

In Kuala Terengganu, T-Team pulled off a major upset by whipping Perak 3- 0 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium and move into seventh spot with 13 points.

Tomorrow, Penang will face Felda United at the Batu Kawan Stadium while Sarawak host Selangor at the State Stadium in Kuching on Tuesday and PKNS FC take on Kedah at the Shah Alam Stadium.
