Three killed in separate accidents

KUCHING: Three people were killed in two separate accidents near here yesterday morning.

One case involved a collision between a lorry and a tank truck at KM115 of Jalan Kuching/Sri Aman.

According to state Traffic Investigat­ion and Enforcemen­t Department deputy chief DSP Bingkok John, a distress call on the incident was received at 11.15am.

It is said that the lorry driver and his co-worker – aged 27 and 37, respective­ly – were heading to the city from Sri Aman when the vehicle entered the opposite lane and later, collided with the tank truck.

“The impact from the crash pinned the ( lorry) driver and his co-worker to their seats. The driver died en route to the hospital, while his co-worker was pronounced dead on site,” he said, adding that the case is being investigat­ed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

It is learned that the two were from Kuala Bakam, Miri.

The driver of the tank truck survived the accident, but suffered serious injuries.

Earlier at 8.50am, police received a report of an accident at Mile 16 of Jalan Kota Samarahan/ Asajaya near here where a female motorcycli­st was killed.

It is believed that the motorcycli­st, aged 23 from Kampung Semera Ulu, lost control of her machine and crashed into an excavator parked by the roadside.

Paramedics, upon arrival at the scene, pronounced the woman dead on site.

It is learned that the woman was heading to Sadong Jaya from her workplace at Muara Tabuan here when tragedy struck.

“The impact from the crash caused the rider to be pinned under the heavy machinery.

“We believe that she was killed instantly due to massive injuries,” said Bingkok, adding that the case is being investigat­ed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
