Don’t be deceived by fake news, says Najib
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are advised not to be deceived by fake news as there are certain parties who wish to ‘ paint a different picture' of Malaysia, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The prime minister said those involved were doing it for their own benefit by spreading untrue stories about the country.
“So, please don't be deceived by fake news. There is more than enough of that and we don't want it to obscure the achievements and success of Malaysia's transformation, a transformation that all Malaysians, whatever their views, ought to be proud of,” he said when delivering his keynote address at the 19th Asia Oil and Gas Conference here yesterday.
The two- day conference brings together eminent industry leaders, policy makers and delegates from around the world.
Najib said the people who really knew Malaysia were well aware that there was every reason to have confidence in the country.
Najib said these people knew that under the stewardship of this government, there had been years of healthy growth, that 2.26 million new jobs had been created.
Besides that, he said, unemployment and inflation had been kept low and that the Gross National Income had increased by nearly 50 per cent.
“This did not happen by chance. It happened because the government had a plan. That plan has been delivered and is continuing to deliver,” Najib said. — Bernama
