KUCHING: A diabetic thanked the media for highlighting his plight which led to a member of the public immediately donating RM1,000 in cash to help him.

Kiew Leng Hoi,56, suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, Hepatitis B and kidney failure. Three times every week, he needs to undergo haemodialysis, Hope Place Kuching founder Kelvin Wan said.

Duetodiabetes, healsohadtohave one of his legs undergo amputation three times in September last year at a hospital.

He is also partially blind in his right eye apart from suffering blurry vision in his left eye.

Kiew’s 42-year-old wife Magerita from Indonesia is just a housewife who also needs to take care of Kiew and their two young children aged 2 and 10.

Kiew’s only source of income is the RM300 monthly assistance from the state Welfare Department (JKM). That sum is not enough to cover his monthly house rental of RM420. Therefore, Magerita sometimes has to sell ‘ lok lok’ (skewered snacks) at entertainment outlets just to make ends meet.

Wan handed over the cash donation of RM1,000 and some food items to Kiew recently.
