Kota Samarahan records drop in fire cases — Bomba
We saw about 20 cases for the same period last year; this year, cases have dropped to 15.
KOTA SAMARAHAN: This municipality has recorded a drop in the number of fire incidents this year to date.
In the first five month, it registered 15 cases, said Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) chief Hashim Ramlan.
He attributed negligence as being the key cause in most incidents.
“We saw about 20 cases for the same period last year; this year, cases have dropped to 15,” he told reporters at Bomba Day 2017 celebration here yesterday.
On the incidence of longhouse fires across the state, Hashim believed that the majority of cases were triggered by negligence such as unattended cooking, or were due to short-circuits.
“This is why we want to remind all longhouse residents to always be vigilant, especially when it pertains to fire sources such as the cooking stove, or electrical appliances and wiring.
“With Gawai just around the corner, it is timely that longhouse residents ensure that they are ready and able to handle emergency cases such as fires well – this includes preventive measure.”
Hashim also observed that some longhouses in the state are still using wood for cooking and in this regard, he reminded them to practise higher levels of caution and proper handling.
According to him, the Kota Samarahan Bomba frequently receives invitations from government departments and agencies, local companies as well as local organisations to conduct fire awareness programmes for them.
“We are glad to assist in enlightening the public on firerelated issues such as the handling during emergency situations and ways to put out fires,” he said.
