MRC Kapit, Lions Club present emergency aid to fire victims

KAPIT: The Malaysian Red Crescent Kapit Chapter ( MRC Kapit) and Lions Club of Kapit yesterday morning handed over assistance in the form of food, cooking utensils, blankets and clothes to the fire victims of Rumah Messop Tawi.

Rumah Messop Tawi was reduced to ashes on Saturday at around 4pm leaving 104 fire victims from 17 families homeless with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

A total of RM2,113 was spent to buy food items such as rice, noodles, Milo powder and canned sardines for the fire victims. The cost was shared by MRC Kapit and the Lions Club of Kapit.

I laud MRC Kapit and also the Lions Club of Kapit for helping the fire victims in their hour of dire need. They’re doing a good job to promote a caring society and I hope other organisati­ons will follow the example of these associatio­ns in helping the victims of disasters. The prompt response from the two organisati­ons earned the thumbs-up from Kapit District Disaster Relief Committee chairman Elvis Didit who is also Kapit District Officer, as well as from Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

“I laud MRC Kapit and also the Lions Club of Kapit for helping the fire victims in their hour of dire need. They’re doing a good job to promote a caring society and I hope other organisati­ons will follow the example of these associatio­ns in helping the victims of disasters,” Jamit said, adding that helping others during emergencie­s or difficult times is a noble deed.
