X-Tune Archery Club wins Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championsh­ip

BINTULU: The X-Tune Archery Club from Miri emerged overall champion in the 18th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championsh­ip.

Eleven teams comprising 95 archers took part in the competitio­n at Kidurong Club Bintulu from May 5 to 8.

Bintulu Resident Muhamad Yakup Kari Officiated at the closing and prize giving ceremony.

Also present was Bintulu Division Archery Associatio­n president Datuk Pui Kian Onn who is the chairman of the organising committee.

“I can see a lot of new faces, young men, young ladies, small boys and girls.

“This is a good sign for the sport of archery, this shows the archery is growing strong in Sarawak as we have new blood to replace the old and weak ones,” said Pui.

He was confident that Bintulu Division Archery Associatio­n would be able to produce young archers to represent Sarawak for the coming Sukma 2018 which will be held in Perak next year.

“We have produced one Compound gold medalist Kho Yee Ting in the last Sukma in Kuching. He helped Sarawak to bag two gold medals out of three gold medals for archery,” Pui said.

Meanwhile Sarawak Archery Associatio­n secretary general Chong Yap Jin when met said six categories were contested in the 18th Sarawak Outdoor Archery Championsh­ip.

“Two of the archers were Singaporea­ns while six from Melaka and the rest Sarawakian­s,” he said.

Ac c or d i ng to him t hi s competitio­n is a platform for them to select 10 best archers to represent Sarawak for Sukma.

He added overall the archers from the Northern region have shown the potential to excel in the sport.
