Snatch thieves escape with RM26,000

KUCHING: Two snatch thieves escaped with a briefcase belonging to a businessma­n containing cash worth RM26,000 in an incident here on Monday.

According to a source, the incident occurred at around 4pm along Rock Road, when the 56-year- old victim who had just exited his vehicle was confronted by two unknown individual­s on a motorcycle.

It is believed that the victim was heading to a nearby bank when he was confronted by the two individual­s who then grabbed his briefcase containing the cash and a few personal documents.

The incident happened so fast the victim did not have time to react, and the two suspects then fled the scene.

The victim lodged a police report at a nearby police station and police are investigat­ing.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a male teenager was detained for attempting to steal a motorcycle at around 11pm at Batu Kawah on Monday.

According to a source, the 17year- old was believed to have carried out the crime together with two friends; however the duo fled the scene moments after their act was discovered.

“Members of the public apprehende­d the suspect who tried to escape and the motorcycle was also recovered from its hiding place in bushes near the scene.

“The suspect and the motorcycle were handed over to the police for further investigat­ion,” a source said, adding that a police report had been lodged.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan confirmed the arrest.
