Ministry assured of commitment to push tourism industry

MIRI: The Federation of Sarawak Chinese Associatio­ns assures the federal Ministry of Tourism and Culture of its full commitment in pushing the tourism and services industries towards becoming the new engine of economic growth for Sarawak.

Federation president Hii Teck Yun said his side would go all out in assist the government across all aspects in realising this aspiration.

“On May 4, we went for a dialogue with Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz at the Federation of Chinese Associatio­ns Malaysia ( Huazong) premises in Kuala Lumpur, where the agenda were mostly on tourism.

“At the same time, we also highlighte­d (to the minister) the need to have ongoing support for and further enhancemen­ts to the developmen­t and preservati­on of the Chinese culture,” he told reporters at a press conference on the session here recently..

Hii said during the dialogue, Nazri provided positive feedback to the federation on efforts slated for giving equal attention to Sarawak tourism, particular­ly on the marketing aspect.

He said Nazri assured them of the ministry’s efforts in getting Singapore Airlines, as well as other airliners from China and Japan, to fly to Sarawak.

“The minister ( Nazri) assured us that his ministry had never left Sarawak out of tourism marketing.

“We gained positive feedback from the minister during the fourhour dialogue.

“We look forward to seeing the realisatio­n of what the minister has promised us, towards paving the road of success for the state’s tourism industry,” said Hii.
