‘Cabinet reshuffle in line with 2030 vision’
KUCHING: State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar revealed that the Cabinet reshuffle recently was to streamline the government’s policy towards achieving the status of a developed state by 2030.
He said Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg wanted to ensure that that goal is met.
“On Vision 2020, we are together with the rest of the country to achieve its goals. And we want to accomplish that as well. But we also have our own vision which is beyond 2020, which is 2030. This does not mean that we will be a decade behind the rest but that we are focused on the overall development of the state towards modernisation and industrialisation.
“Therefore, there must be a leapfrog policy to bring us there,” Asfia told the media after the official opening of State Legislative Assembly sitting by Yang di-Pertua

He pointed out that the address by the Head of State at the opening of the sitting spelt out the policy of the state government.
“Then, the Chief Minister will deliberate in his winding-up speech, his policy and his vision on how to achieve the set targets,” he explained.
On whether the recent state cabinet reshuffle will affect the performance of those who were just appointed as full ministers as well as those who were reassigned to other portfolios, Asfia gave assurance that they had been briefed on their new jobs during the last pre-council meeting.
“Everything should be alright as they have been briefed on their new jobs. Even their sitting arrangements have been updated. So they should be able to answer questions as well as present their respective winding-up speeches,” he said.
Asfia pointed out that the Chief Minister had picked his team to spearhead what he wanted to implement to transform Sarawak.
“Then they (ministers) can get the message of his policy during his winding-up speech,” he stressed.
Those newly appointed as full ministers are Datuk Talib Zulpilip ( Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office – Integrity and Ombudsman) and Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah ( Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports).
Two ministers who have been shifted to lead new ministries are Dato Sri Michael Manyin ( Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research) and Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh (Ministry of International Trade and ECommerce besides his previous portfolio as Second Minister of Finance).
Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has been entrusted with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
