Meeting to decide fate of interim teachers
KUCHING: Newly appointed Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin will meet Malaysian Education Service Commission (SPP) chairman Tan Sri Dr Haili Bolhan about interim teachers from Sarawak who failed their psychometric test recently.
He said he had spoken to Haili yesterday morning to set up the meeting. News reports said 80 failed the test in March but Manyin said the number was 76.
“Hopefully, I will get more information about it and how best we can help those who failed. There are 76 of them, many actually sat for the third time,” he told reporters after the opening of the First Session of the Second Term of 18th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here yesterday.
It was reported in The Borneo
Hopefully, I will get more information about it and how best we can help those who failed. There are 76 of them, many actually sat for the third time.
Post on Wednesday that 80 out 236 interim teachers from Sarawak who were given a second chance to sit for the psychometric test conducted by SPP in March have failed.
One of the interim teachers said they were very disappointed with the results and at the same time curious as to how they marked the test.
“Is it reliable and can we trust them? We would like to propose that the test papers be re-marked by another independent panel from Sarawak.”
It was reported previously that the services of 210 interim teachers were terminated as they failed the same test they took in December last year. However, following the intervention by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid allowed their services to be extended to June 30 and were given a chance to sit for the test again.
In addition, the 210 interim teachers were also given a second chance to attend the interview session of the SPP.
According to Manyin, the test was conducted because findings showed a big correlation between the performance of psychometric test and real performance on the job. He said there were books and sample questions for those preparing to sit for such tests.
