Woman claims trial to causing hurt, mischief charge

KUCHING: A woman charged with voluntaril­y causing hurt and mischief claimed trial at a magistrate’s court here yesterday.

Rosna Marek, 33, from Sungai Apong appeared before Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng who released her on RM6,000-bail in two sureties.

The case was set for further mention on June 14.

On the first charge, she was accused of causing hurt to a woman, 57, with a wooden stick at 7.15pm on May 8 by the roadside at Jalan Tun Razak here. On the second charge, she allegedly smashed and damaged the window of a car belonging to the same woman at the same time, date and place.

Voluntaril­y causing hurt, listed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, while mischief, under Section 427 of the Penal Code, provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years, or with fine, or with both, upon conviction. Lawyer Hani Iryani defended the accused.

In an unrelated case, a man who allegedly stole RM390 from another man had his case adjourned to June 14

The accused, Rudi Deni, pleaded not guilty to stealing the money from a commercial centre at Demak Laut between 10pm and 11.15pm on May 1.

He is facing a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft which provides for a jail term up to 10 years and fine upon conviction. Ahmad Dzulfadzli Hamdan represente­d Rudi while Inspector Yunus Sahak was the prosecutin­g officer.
