Police investigat­ing claims of local man selling arms to Daesh militants

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan police are in the midst of investigat­ing claims that a local resident who is part of a group of smugglers operating along the Malaysia-Thailand border here is supplying firearms to the Daesh militants.

State police acting chief SAC Din Ahmad said the police would conduct a comprehens­ive investigat­ion based on existing laws as well as seeking informatio­n from authoritie­s in neighbouri­ng countries.

He was speaking to reporters after officiatin­g the flagging- off ceremony for the 19th Kelantan Contingent Malaysia Royal Police Cadet Corp National Level Camping Convoy here yesterday.

Din was commenting on a newspaper report of a local man who was suspected to have links with Daesh and supplying firearms to the militant group.

It is understood the 27-year- old fugitive from Rantau Panjang had escaped to Thailand after several police raids were conducted at various areas in the state.

According to the report, since early this year, four men and two women aged between 24 and 41, were detained in Kelantan, Selangor, Johor, Melaka and Penang for suspected links with Daesh.

Meanwhile, 46 officers and school cadets in the state were selected to participat­e in the fiveday camp beginning yesterday, in Ulu Kinta, Perak. — Bernama
