-

KAPIT: A four-member inspectorate led by Adi Azlan Ahmad Othman from the Ministry of Urban Well-Being, Housing and Local Government in Kuala Lumpur paid a one- day visit to Kapit District Council to carry out a star-rating auditing programme on the council.

The other inspectorate members were Naimurraihan Musa, Rasid Mat Jin and Muhd Khairul Hakimin Md Ariffin.

In the previous star-rating auditing programme carried out in 2014, Kapit District Council managed to get a three-star rating with a score of 62.59 per cent.

Council secretary Jabang Juntan in his opening remarks said that Kapit District Council has realised several achievements this year, including receiving the fivestar rating for the Accountability Index ( 2016) Award and 41 of its staff being presented with the Excellence Service Award by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg in Sibu in March.

He pointed out that Kapit is a vast area roughly the size of the state of Pahang, adding that this contributed to many challenges in providing effective and efficient service delivery to the people in addition to limited budgets and financial constraints.

“Despite such handicaps, we are trying our very best to serve the community with creativity and innovation to reduce public complaints and to further improve services and the delivery system,” Jabang said.

On the star-rating programme, Jabang acknowledged that the council has its own limitations and weaknesses and is ready to accept whatever rating decision is made while pledging to further improve in the areas identified by the inspectorate.

Meanwhile, the head of the inspectorate, Adi Azlan, in his closing remarks called on the council to carry out a post mortem to identify their weaknesses and to find ways and means to rectify and improve on weak documentation, especially in the core business of the organisation.

He said the official rating for the council will be made known as soon as possible upon the final decision by the board of directors.

Also present at the exit conference for the star-rating auditing programme were the council’s assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat, section heads of the council representing Public Works, Public Health, Valuation and Rating, Treasury, Library, Enforcement, and several staff members.
