KUCHING: A man was hospitalised with serious injuries to his right hand after a failed house break-in attempted on Tuesday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said a police report was lodged by the house owner, an engineer, after he discovered blood stains on the fence post of his house at Jalan Demak here around 8.20am.

“According to the owner, he also found the fence was bent, with a slipper believed to belong to the individual stuck there.

“However, no valuable items were reported missing from the house. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year- old man from Kampung Pulo Hulu,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The suspect was detained by police while seeking treatment for a puncture wound on his hand at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“It is believed a next- door house belonging to a doctor was previously broken into by the same suspect, who has a prior criminal record,” added Abang Ahmad.

The suspect is currently warded at SGH and is expected to be remanded under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespassing.
