Food, fun and attractive offers at tHe Spring’s Gawai event

-

KUCHING: Keeping its tradition of coming up with unique displays during festive periods, tHe Spring Shopping Mall will be featuring a display themed ‘Tales from the Little Baruk’ with mazes of greenery and totem poles to enhance the Gawai festive mood.

Culture buffs are invited to delve into the enchanting baruk, or community house, and take a scenic stroll across the bridge circling it to pose for photos with family and friends.

“Foodies will be pleased to find a hidden gem waiting for them at the Alfresco after meandering through the mall in the form of tHe Spring’s Ruai Gawai Kitai,” the mall said in a press release yesterday.

The outdoor bonanza hosts numerous booths featuring food such as Prawn Pansuh, Mealworm Umai, Tuak Ice-cream, Tuak Mojito and other local traditional delights.

Scheduled to be held every evening from May 19 to 28, the outdoor bonanza also boasts live performances to keep everyone entertained and satisfied before the night ends.

Ladies who are looking for that statement piece to make their Gawai outfit pop can pick out classic handmade traditional bead jewelleries from MnJ Beads or check out various handwoven bags from the Penan Women Project. All proceeds from the sale of these Penan bags will be channelled back for the betterment of the Penan community and their future generations.

Children can learn about ‘The Origins of the Bunga Terung’ through interactive activities by Pustaka Bookaroo such as a storytelling and bookmark making session.

Admission is free and parents can register their children for this workshop at the customer service counter.

Other events to look forward to are live cultural acts set to take place at tHe Spring’s Little Baruk on May 17 and 20.

Throughout the festive period, shoppers who make purchases of RM300 and above in a single receipt at the mall are entitled to redeem exclusive items such as The Face Shop’s Real Nature Rice Face Mask, Kiehl’s Travel Essential Kits and tHe Spring’s Limited Edition Umbrella.
