Uggah attributes Betong progress to Jabu

-

BETONG: Betong has developed much after its elevation into a division 15 years ago, having infrastructure such as good road connectivity, clean water supply and electricity.

“With the various developments, the people have also progressed much,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Therefore, it is rightful for everyone to acknowledge Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu Numpang, our former Deputy Chief Minister as the ‘ Apai Pembangunan Betong’,” said Uggah at the Pengerami Makai Malam Gawai Menua Betong at Dewan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Kalong Ningkan, here yesterday.

Uggah, who is also the Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy Minister said since Betong was upgraded to a division, its administration has been systematic and smooth.

“I started my career in Betong as a political secretary in 1977 and have seen much change to Betong, which is a quantum leap from before. Things had changed very much.” said Uggah.

Uggah also thanked the first Betong Resident, Datu Romie Sigan Daniel who had served there for 14 years.

“The challenges now are huge, moreover after Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg had approved the Bukit Sadok Agropolitan Project which covers 300,000 hectarse and involving four parliamentary constituencies,” he said.

“The project, according to Uggah is a continuation after 15 years of Betong upgraded to a division. This phase will create new jobs, new business opportunities and new development, which includes a new airport,” said Uggah.

He added that a working committee, headed by himself has been formed and will meet soon to discuss the implementation of the agropolitan project.
