200 orphans receive early festive cheer from Perkaya

MIRI: The Miri Muslim Orphans Welfare Associatio­n ( Perkaya) brought early festive season cheers to a total of 200 orphans at Gymkhana Club of Miri (GCM) yesterday.

Its chairman Imran Abdul Hamid said the event was held in conjunctio­n with the upcoming fasting month of Ramadhan followed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

During the function, Perkaya presented kurma fruits as well as duit raya to the orphans.

Imkran said the orphans who are registered under Perkaya Miri were from Miri, Bekenu and Niah.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin was the guest- of-honour at the meaningful event.

Lee who is also Senadin assemblyma­n praised Perkaya Miri for its spirit of caring by addressing the welfare interest of needy people particular during festive season.

“When come to charity works, it is a joy to see that the people in Sarawak will chip in respective contributi­on to help the needy regardless of their race and religious background.

“This is the noble spirit that we should continue to uphold by putting aside all the difference­s to further promote community wellbeing in the state.”

At the function, Lee announced a government grant under the Minor Rural Project ( MRP) allocation worth RM10,000 to the associatio­n.
