Terengganu MB announces RM500,000 incentive for State Education Department
KUALA NERUS: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman yesterday announced a RM500,000 incentive for the State Education Department to implement various development activities which could develop teachers’ professional expertise in the state.
He said of the total, RM300,000 would be contributions from state government-linked agencies while the state government would add RM200,000.
“The amount is an increase from last year’s RM300,000. I hope with the contribution, the department will conduct more training courses and programmes in appreciation of teachers for their tireless efforts over the years.
“I trust through the incentive, teachers will be able to gain more knowledge, thus elevating the status of the teaching profession,” he told reporters after officiating at the Terengganu State Teachers’ Day celebrations here, yesterday.
Also present were State Education, Science, Technology and Transformation Committee chairman, A Latiff Awang and JPNT director Shafruddin Ali Hussin.
Commenting further, Ahmad Razif said the state government would also be distributing RM2,000 to all 503 Parent Teacher Associations ( PTAs) in the state soon.
“This is to help the PTA to organise suitable activities which can contribute to the quality of the schools,” said Razif who in his speech described teachers as architects of educational transformation who had contributed towards the development and progress of the nation all these years.
“In Terengganu itself, the teaching profession was recognised when I, a former teacher, was appointed as Menteri Besar.
“It is not an easy task but I managed with the cooperation of those in leadership positions, some of whom are teachers.
“As teachers, we will definitely do our utmost best in carrying out the tasks which had been entrusted upon us,” he said. — Bernama
