SIBU: The staging of the BAM Level 1 Coaching Course here is timely and most appropriate, said Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee.

“This is because, there is no short cut to success and all players particularly those at the young age must have good foundation and sound knowledge of the game in which only their badminton coach can impart,” he pointed out.

He was speaking at the official launch of the course at Sibu Indoor Stadium, Jalan Teku, Sibu yesterday.

Also present was Sarawak State Sports Council’s director Dr Ong Kong Swee who is also chairman

of Badminton Associat ion of Malaysia ( BAM) Coaches Education Programme (CEP).

The five- day course is attended by 46 participants.

“There are a lot of badminton enthusiasts in Sibu and its popularity has grown so much after our town was chosen as the venue of the recent Victor Far East Malaysia Masters Badminton Championship 2017,” Hii added.

Organisers estimated that about 10,000 spectators came to the indoor stadium to watch the matches during the week- long tournament held in January this year.

The Sibu Indoor Stadium was also chosen as the official venue for badminton at last year’s Sukma Sarawak.

“So, you can see that Sibu is no stranger in hosting a lot of national level and international badminton events because we have the necessary sporting facilities and other supporting facilities needed to organise and stage such exciting events,” Hii said.
