KUCHING: Motorcycle touring is one of the fastest growing segments in the state tourism industry.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said there are more bike weeks or events held in Sarawak compared to four or five years ago.

“Soon, with our new and upcoming Pan Borneo Highway, we believe that motorcycle touring tourism will grow exponentially,” said Abang Johari, whose text of speech was read by Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Snowdan Lawan.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of Borneo International Harley Owners Group ( HOG) Rally Malaysia, the chief minister said the rally is a unique opportunity for Harley-Davidson Motorcycle owners from all over the world to experience Borneo island on their bikes.

“The journey will start from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and will end in Kuching.

“They will travel a total distance of about 1,450 kilometres passing through beautiful landscape, tasting different food and enjoying the local culture,” he said.

Organised by HOG Kuala Lumpur chapter, the event will be held from Sept 30 to Oct 9.

According to its chapter director TJ Rolan, the participants would experience the uniqueness of staying in longhouses and blending in with the locals through corporate social responsibility projects.

“We are hoping to gather 150 to 200 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles owners from all over the word.

“We also hope to see more motorcycling events in Sarawak in the future,” he said.

The Borneo International Harley Owners Group (HOG) Rally Malaysia is jointly organised by the state government and HOG members from Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.
