Daily deployment of traffic police to ease congestion during peak hours

KUCHING: Padawan police will station its personnel at traffic ‘ hot spots’ to ease peakhour congestion on a daily basis.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the traffic jam- prone locations identified were Mile 10 KuchingSer­ian Road traffic light intersecti­on; Mile 6 Penrissen Road traffic light intersecti­on; Jalan Stapok to Jalan Ketitir traffic light intersecti­on; and Taman Desa Wira traffic light intersecti­on.

“To overcome the daily congestion, we are taking the drastic measure of stationing police personnel at these hot spots to facilitate the f low of traffic during peak hours,” he told reporters during a monthly parade held at Padawan district police headquarte­rs yesterday.

Aidil said his men will be stationed at the identified locations from 6am to 9am, and again from 4pm to 7pm.

“We have extended each shift from two hours previously, to three hours now,” he added. Aidil also announced the settingup of a four- man ‘ Traffic Jam Squad’, which will be deployed immediatel­y to areas within its jurisdicti­on where a traffic congestion is reported to have occurred.

Earlier in his speech to his men during the parade, Aidil called on them to continue portraying high integrity and to avoid abusing their power.

“You must stay away from corruption, drugs, and gambling to maintain the good name of the force.”

Also present yesterday were deputy district police chief DSP Merbin Lisa and senior police officers.
