Sanggar Budaya Miri to perform in China

-

MIRI: Dance troupe Sanggar Budaya Miri (SBM) will perform in Guangzhou, China for the premiere of online movie ‘ Blue Tears’ on Friday ( May 26).

Manager and choreographer Desmond Sagoh said the event is part of the Malaysia- China Tourism Exchange Summit Meeting.

“A total of 10 dancers will be joining the team. Two dances will be showcased at the event, the popular 1Malaysia dance and Sarawak multicultural dance,” he told a press conference recently.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said it is a privilege for the troupe to perform at the premiere.

“They will be able to showcase wonderful dances and costumes depicting the multicultural society in Sarawak,” he said.

Lee said the film would also be one of the best ways to promote Sarawak to the world.

“The film features many interesting places around Sarawak, particularly in Miri. Apart from social media, films have grown to become one of the most effective and fastest ways of promoting places, making several places into destinations of choice today,” he said, adding that the film features Tusan Beach, longhouses, and other beautiful scenery in and around Miri.

‘Blue Tears’ is the first Malaysia- China joint production for an online audience with filming taking place between February and April this year.

“We hope that the screening of the film will then attract even more tourists to come to Miri and to Sarawak. We will also make arrangements with the film producer to showcase the film at our local cinemas,” he added.

‘ Blue Tears’ is about Ling Fu Sheng ( Sun Wei), who arrives in Miri and falls in love with local girl Katrina ( Debbie Kenstern Merang).

However, Katrina’s parents vehemently object to their romance, causing the frustrated Ling to return to China to marry someone else.

One day, an ageing Ling ( Ringo Yu) tells his grandson that he has never forgotten Katrina.

This prompts the grandson to travel to Miri, determined to find Katrina.

History seems to repeat itself as Ling’s grandson also meets a local girl and falls in love.
